I'm not sure which I like better. That a theft security system used by millions uses such simple logic that the code can be cracked in seconds...or that the Reuters article is in a site section sponsored by Audi. Classic.

I think this is what my mom often refers to as "the myth of progress."

PS: (Feb. 1) Thank you Dan for the code check.

I'm starting to worry about San Francisco. I always think of it as a "free spirit" city - Haight Ashbury might have something to do with that, but I digress. So now they want to charge 17 cents for grocery bags and may extend its smoking ban to public parks and other outdoor areas. It all sounds a little fascist to me.

Not sure which is worse here. That Charles Wang USES the word tuchus, or that the LI Business News spelled it wrong. Wrong may be too strong a word here. What say you?
No one told me that scientists around the world are producing chimeras that are part human, part animal. At least that's what National Geographic says is going on. Mouse brains in humans I've seen a lot of evidence for that. But human brains in a mouse? Call me a skeptic. But you can't say I didn't warn you.
Am I crazy? Didn't Seymour Hersh and the New Yorker publish an excellent article about the secret war being conducted by Rumsfeld and the Pentagon several days before the Washington Post article about it was published yesterday? And does the WP mention the New Yorker article anywhere? Not that I could see. Maybe it's two different secret wars being run by the Pentagon. Who can keep track really.
Maureen Dowd exposes SpongeBush SquarePants as only she can. The more I think about it the scarier it is.
Good article in the times over the latest round in the great Gray Matter and the Sexes debate, ignited most recently by Harvard's president. For what it's worth, the most telling evidence can be found at the very end of the article.
Not sure if it will help but here's some advice from our friends across the Atlantic on how to cope with January 24.

Missing millions in Iraq; Rumsfeld's got his own Gestapo (what the hell else should we call it?) and the Fourth Estate is in serious need of a reality check, according to this article...from New Zealand. At least SOMEONE is paying attention to what's happened to America.
Amazing snow storm last night and this morning. Snow's above my knee - somewhere in the 15 inch range. I love it.

Watched a lot of movies this weekend - Inherit The Wind with Spencer Tracey to name one. Based on the Scopes monkey trial. And I kept thinking to myself how timely so much of it still is. Little did I know how right I was. Read this article from Time magazine and tell me if it doesn't send a chill up your spine.

I'm not as tolerant or forgiving of CRACKPOT ChristianS as this MSNBC commentator. There's zero tolerance for messing with SpongeBob. Absolute zero.
If the sacrifices being made weren't so horrific, I'd find some amusement in the latest snafu in the ongoing debacle that is Iraq. It's almost like a three-for - The Keystone Kops, the Marx Brothers and the Three Stooges Go To War. The guy in the picture looks like Zeppo, doesn't he? (And please note this only refers to our current leadership in Washington - not the men and women serving their country and possibly dying for it.

Or maybe we should call in the Scooby Gang (not Buffy et al, but Velma and the rest) to solve the Mystery of the Missing $300 Million. Taken away in cash in little boxes. Good gawd it's maddening.

Is it just me or did Bush II declare war - or an intent to declare war - on most of the countries around the world in his inauguration speech yesterday? Except maybe Canada and England. Everyone else had better watch out including our allies in Russia, Saudi Arabia, etc. etc.

But leave it to TV news to go in depth on the designer wrapping paper the Bush II women were wearing.

My last observation on the unholy inauguration of 2005? I don't think Bush II should dance in public anymore. Trust me on this one.
I'm sick of reading about the big, fat, Trump wedding. But it's better than hearing Katie Couric interview the bride and groom on the Today Show this week. She also happens to be an invited guest to their wedding. I don't know how that show gets away with calling itself a news program.

Then there's always a headline to get's the outrage meter going. It appears Harvard University President has some 'splaining to do, as Ricky Ricardo would say.

It's unfortunate he used the term "innate differences" - it's so imprecise. I'm not outraged by his words though many others are. I've done enough research in the area of how the brain works to be dangerous. I'm convinced that men and women are wired differently - in general. I would never use that information in the context of that forum. Poor judgment, if you ask me. Maybe he could make up for it by hiring a few more women at Harvard. That wouldn't be so bad, would it?
I think I'm using all my outrage over Kevin's death - there's not much room for more outrage after that. I had promised myself that I wouldn't be angry with Kevin for dying having seen how he fought to breathe and to reach me before he died.

But the last few days I keep coming to the realization that I'm really mad at him for leaving me alone. I talk to the cat -- who now has no hope of escaping my neurotic tendencies. Kevin was always my balance. I keep wondering what I'm going to do without him.

I keep wondering what Kevin would think of Randy Johnson pitching for the Yankees. I do know his reaction to the Big Ass' - I mean Unit's outburst at the media. Kevin wouldn't care what Johnson says or does to the press - as long as he get's us to a World Series win. At least that's what I imagine he'd say.
What's that saying... something like "we've come a long way, baby." But how long have we really come? The divorce case in Seattle seems like such a throwback, doesn't it?

Monday, January 10, 2005

Sure, Randy Moss has issues. Who doesn't? But if Moss is fined for his pretend mooning I think we can officially declare that this country has absofuckinglutely no sense of humor. None. Nada.

Can't we all just lighten up? Just a little - that doesn't seem too much to ask.

What Bush II plans to do to Social Security should be considered a crime. Maybe not a "high crime" - but I didn't think Clinton's lying about a blowjob qualified either so what do I know?

What I do know is that this has nothing to do with economics or taking care of American seniors. It's the neo-con's plan to take Social Security out of the FDR legend and make up one of their own. It's says so right in the memo:

My favorite line? "If we succeed ... it will rank as one of the most significant conservative governing achievements ever," Wehner wrote.

Again, I ask - can we do a revote? I honestly think we can find about 4-5 million people who realized they'd made a mistake on November 2. I'm serious.

I fully agree that "frivolous" lawsuits have to stop. But Bush's proposal for medical liability reform appears to be a free pass for really bad doctors and drug companies. But I guess Bush II has to move fast - before the victims of Vioxx and the greed of its makers and the culpability of the FDA is actually proven in a court of law. Which it will, one can only hope.
Evacuate to a bunker and bring a bust of your fearless leader? Is it just me or does North Korea's Detailed Wartime Guidelines remind you of a Bugs Bunny/Road Runner cartoon? I'm sure the book was published by Acme. I'm so sure.
